Having stayed at Sumners Ponds fishery and campsite at Barns Green this week, located just west of Horsham, (very central and close for most of us) I have had the OK from the site owner, Simon, to use any of three locations he has here to congregate, camp and fly kites! This really is a fantastic location as it is fully equipped with immaculate facilities that we can use, a Café serving quality reasonably priced hot food all day, and lakes we can fish for a daily charge of £6 a rod. Fees are £8.50 a pitch, £4 for adults and £2 for children. We can have a whole field to ourselves if required, or serviced pitches, all I need to know is who is up for an informal weekend and WHEN? You can be assured of we will be actually be WELCOMED and the location, the views, and the hospitality is superb. The site owner is extremely keen for us to attend and really wants to see what we do as a kite club…especially when I mentioned ‘Manta’ was bigger than the island in his lake! Details of this fabulous site can be viewed at www.sumnersponds.co.uk and availability can be at short notice and not an issue, but as we are all at some event or another throughout the season I would like to have some indication of who would be interested and dates they could make maybe a Friday to Monday. Please email me suggestions at CMarshall@brightonkiteflyers.co.uk and I will do my best to arrange it if there is enough interest, which incidentally may help negotiate a discount if there are quite a few of us. May be up for it but would I be right that it is £20.50 for 2 adults and 2 kids.
£8.50 for the pitch £4.00 per adult and £2.00 each child
It could end up costing you a lot Colin if loads pof people come along.

Its very hard to describe the site but here goes.....If you click on this link... www.sumnersponds.co.uk/popuppix/sitemap404550.jpgLocation1, exactly where it says 'fishing lake' at the bottom left, it is a man made hill and if the wind blows towards the lake would be suitable for small stuff. The other way is a railway line and power cables!(behind us) Location2, is just above this where it shows a lake circled by a footpath, this is a proposed lake and is currently their 'rally field' but is surrounded by trees and although quite suitable and large enough (area of about two football fields) wind would be turbulent though. Location3, is at the top right, under where it says 'new fishing lake' and is a huge field on a bit of a slope, not dissimilar to the Kingsfold field last year and suitable for kites small or large, like Kingsfold it is a cow field on occasions and depending on when we went (or when the cows went!) as to how we would find it...a little notice to the site and the cows would be kept off, its not a regular camping field but we would be allowed to camp if there was enough of us. Yep your pricing is right, Simon, at this time of year...it would cost me £8.50 for the pitch, now high season though so £5 per adult and £2 per child that makes it £15.50 for Sabrina and me. For the majority of us the Location is pretty local so offsetting that against the fuel bill its not ridiculously expensive.... Hey I'm the Scrooge, or is it Dell Boy, I never said I was going to pay for everyone, however I will sell raffle tickets at a £1 each and WILL top it up pay for the winner to camp FREE for the weekend..hows that?Collin

E-mail received, Simon referred to is the owner of the campsite: Dear Colin Simon has asked me to reply to you regarding your e-mail sent on the 6th July. We do not now have availability for the dates that you have said but we can accommodate you on the Rally Field on the following dates - August 3rd, 10th, 17th, 31st and September 7th. We would love to have you along Hope one of these dates suits. Kind regards Jenny Ireland Sumners Ponds
Sorry Greenman, the rally field has been booked by another club for that weekend, he who hesitates etc....Only found out when I got back after Brighton Festival on Monday evening. I have tried to get everyone (anyone?) who was interested to suggest a date they could make and post the same up here so we could all come to a suitable date that the majority could attend, as you can see from the email most dates that they suggest, WE are all busy at festivals!
Its a no win situation of booking the field as Members cant commit if they don't know the date of the event and the date of the event is dependant on Members making the date in the first place! (is that making sense?)
ANY SUGGESTIONS??

Looks good to me too. Simon H has an event during the day of the 3rd.(Friday) that some of us are going to, (100 yrs. of Scouting, at Long Furlong, just off the A24 near Findon) so both events can easily be done on the same day being local to each other![glow=yellow,3,900]I would say Fri3rd./Sat4th./Sun5th/Mon6th of August would be Ideal[/glow]allowing anyone interested to come on any day, also being a camp site there are no problems if you wanted to come earlier or stay later for that matter!
(Date depending!) But so far we have Dave & Tracey / John and Janet / Kev & Linda / Simon & Corrina / Paul & Sue / Dave and Sheila / Keith Boxall / Sabrina and me!
Come on...one more person agree with that date and I will book it! Collin

E-mail received today 13th.July...
Hi Colin So pleased to hear that you are going to come and stay with your club! How many people will you be bringing with you (just roughly will do for now). We are using the field as an overflow for that weekend so we will portion off a part of the field for you. Would you like to go on the far side of the field or near the track and loos? Look forward to hearing from you - we have put it in the diary. Kind regards Jenny
That leaves the ball firmly in your court Guys and Gals, who's coming so I can reply to this letter ASAP !
