What a shame. I bought my first ever kite from them a long, long time ago at the Brighton shop...before the Internet, and never imagined there were 'Kite Clubs' out there, I just enjoyed the thrill of flying (my own kites) years later I was enlightened to 'Kite Clubs' and now enjoy flying everyone else's! ;D ;D
I did buy some accessories from their Bluewater shop, once, but doing the circuit of Kiting events made all other kiting purchases on impulse and negotiated discounts!
Sadly I am just as guilty of many of us (kick me if my assumption is wrong) of neglecting our 'corner shop' who's presence was smugly reassuring in case of 'emergencies'...yes again I did buy something by mail order, when something broke, cant remember what, and found their expertise, helpfulness, friendliness and service outstanding! Like corner shops (grocers, bakers, butchers etc.) and milk deliveries.....WE are all to blame for their demise by our change of shopping habits...are we not?
Personally: Thank You AirBorn Kites for outstanding services...WE NEVER KNOW WHAT WE HAVE UNTILL ITS GONE!

A real shame to witness the passing of Brighton's kite shop. Both Paul & Estelle have been supporters of Brighton Kite Festival for many years. I wish them good luck in any future ventures & hope they will still come & enjoy our festival. Also a word for their staff, who always looked like they were enjoying themselves in the shop. I hope you find other work that you enjoy just as much.
A sad day for all. Farewell Airborn Kites.
Cheers, Greenman.

It is sad to see demise of yet another kite shop, particularly one that sold kite making materials. As someone who builds rather than buys finding places that sell bits and pieces is getting harder and harder.
The postoffice haven't helped the mail order suppliers with their weight and size based pricing which means that bits have to go as more expensive packets rather than first class letter, and you have use couriers if you and any spar material over 1.5m in length.

Airheads Kite-surf shop (www.air-head.com) is also closing down having been trading on the South Coast at Rustington for 12 years. The Kite and surf Academy at Littlehampton Beach is still in operation (also owed by the shop) but its future is unclear. So if your thinking of buying that new kite dig deep and keep your local shop in business.
