Tomorrow is the 100th anniversary of SF Cody's first powered flight in the UK. Any one fancy a quick lunchtime or evening Cody flight to commemorate the centenary?
We don't have to be together, just take a Cody to a flight site near you and enjoy the fact that you are joining in a moment in time.
I'm going to be at burgess Hill rugby club about 1.30pm Enjoy your flight.
cheers, Greenman.

What a good idea. I had just been watching a piece about Cody on the BBC lunchtime news - there's going to be more on South Today at 6:30 tonight.
If I had a Cody kite I'd have been there with you!

Couldn't manage my big Cody, plenty of wind, but rather a lot of aeroplanes over the airfield at lunchtime - see tv tonight, both South Today and Meridian were there filming. Did get to see the flypast (pics on Facebook tomorrow, hopefully) including a big triangle shaped thing: 558 is currently parked on the apron at Farnborough Whisper is, it is due to fly out on Saturday afternoon around 3 p.m. ;D If I'm wrong don't quote me, but the museum ( www.airsciences.org.uk/association.html ) will be open as well, so you can get to see the Cody replica in it's new 'shed' www.codyflyerproject.com/As this could be 558's final flight, and a chance to see it take off, guess where I'll be ? ;D

For all the BBC South Today reports go to www.bbc.co.uk/hampshire/content/articles/2008/09/29/cody_feature.shtml but be warned, John Simpson claims Cody as his great grandfather, but if I hear correctly, Simpson's grandmother was one of Lela's daughters by her husband, not Samuel Cody, who 'shacked up' with her, the dirty old showman Sam only had one child, a son, Frank, with Lela. According to Garry Jenkins in 'Colonel Cody and the Flying Cathedral' Frank had two sons, but I do not know the rest of the descendants. The two experts on Cody are Jean Roberts, who lives in his house, and Paul Chapman. Jean's website is www.sfcody.org.uk/ but it is not completely up-to-date, and lacks many pictures yet.
