I have seen the concept before on a couple of websites but I still don't get how they think they are going to generate much power.
Ok I get the generation phase the wind pulls the kite out which spins up an alternator creating electricity. However you the have to have a rewind phase which is going to consume a fair amount of energy getting all that line back on the spool. Even if you have flown the kite to the edge of the wind window the wind up time is going to be really long otherwise you are going to be pulling under a huge amount of tension and expending even more power. But then again you are going to need to keep a degree of inflation on the kite, hence drag and more expended power, otherwise you are going to get a big crumpled mass on the floor and I would just hate to walk out to sort that one out ;D
