Dropped the Punto in for its MOT at 8:30 this morning. At 9:30am I get a phone call from the test centre to say that it has just failed (no reason given) and would I pop down. Fearing the worst I left work and went down to garage to find that the reason for the failure is: "Windscreen has a sticker or other obstruction encroaching into the swept area by more than 40mm outside zone 'A' [8.3.1e] ." It turns out that the reindeer airfreshener which is suspended from the secondary mirror we use for monitoring Bon-bon is apparently blocking the view. Now any sensible person would have just popped the mirror and airfreshener off of the screen (the mirror is only held on with a suction cup!) and then had a word when I collected the car, but no, they had actually failed the car and raised all the paperwork to that effect!!! Having removed the mirror and offending air freshener myself (<5 seconds work), I then had to wait for the tester to finish the vehicle he was on so that he could come and view the car, pass it and raise the certificate (30 minutes). Suffice to say I know where my car wont be having its MOT next year. The VT30: The reason for Failure:

Conducting an informal survey on the drive home this lunchtime following this mornings experince: 1 in 3 cars on the UKs roads would fail an MOT.
