In an interview today after the completed first test of the Black hole maker.
CERN Director General Robert Aymar had the following to say.
“The LHC is a discovery machine, its research program has the potential to change our view of the Universe profoundly, continuing a tradition of human curiosity that’s as old as mankind itself.”
Yep, he’s not wrong.
Its research program has the potential to make our view of the Universe very dark indeed.
Since 8.30 this morning I have been not dead.
Long may this continue
Cheers, Greenman

Doomsday lawsuit warns Geneva's CERN could cause the end of the world. A lawsuit has been filed against Geneva's CERN research facility over claims its experiments could destroy the planet. Two scientists in Hawaii say the European Organization for Nuclear Research might create black holes that could swallow the earth. The Large Hadron Collider is the world's biggest particle accelerator and will essentially crash beams of protons together to create what the universe was like right after the Big Bang. It will do so in a massive underground ring stretching underneath the Swiss and French border and the scientists claim CERN has not fully tested the LHC. CERN says the project is safe and it will discuss safety and other issues on *April 6 at its open house day. It says it is taking the lawsuit seriously but does not know what jurisdiction a court in Hawaii will have. As for black holes, CERN admits the LHC has the potential to create them, but if any were created they would be so small that they would evaporate instantly. ************** And we are worried about a few "pops" made with gas and black powder - its all relative - Cheers[/b] Thanks for the above Big John, see you soon?
* Presumably they were unsuccessful in the law suit, and as I am still here (I think?) remember there are other black holes around that don't 'evaporate' there still IS a point saying to someone.. "You can stick it where the sun dont shine" [/color] Large Hadron Collider

I think I am still here so I must be. Although I could be a figment of my imagination, and everything has actually disappeared into a blackhole.

Fascinating today listening to the radio on the way to work today about how one of the scientist in CERN was involved in a previous experiment and needed to transfer data around and about at high speed - out of this was born the WWW. What could come out of this new experiment which is far larger in both size and computing requirements.
I wait with baited breath

well im going to have to pay the gas bill I was hoping we would all get sucked into a black hole so i didn't have to pay that would teach them for putting the price up regards kev

10 days, just 10 days after the inaugural run and all the hype, before it broke down! Apparently it could be several months before anything is run again. Looking at their LIVE WEBCAM isn't very reassuring!!
