To all and sundry it looks like nothing much has been going on in the Club....IT HAS!!! Unfortunately (or fortunately?) its all in the MEMBERS area where you cant see it....so duplicated my posting here for non members:
Glad I went to this event after missing it out for a few years. Weather was perfect, hot and sunny….which drew out the public in hoards. Made a change from sheltering from the rain, wind and snow as has been the norm at most kiting events that this year.
Camping around the arena added spectacle to everything the arena had going on, and there was a lot going on! Commentary was informative and humorous, the Swiss and Germans teams put up some stunning kites as usual, and there was a two line French team of five that I thought were superb…what were they called? Too many other good kite flyers and teams to mention, but the beauty of being here was being able to camp on the edge of the action and be able to take time out from participating and enjoy just watching, cuppa in hand! That Chris Goff seems to get better and better every time I see him Fly…Team Spectrum were there for Saturday, always a pleasure to watch and they always make the MOST of whatever conditions they have thrown at them, I have NEVER known them not to put on a display. Doesn’t Karl look strange when flying three kites simultaneously, contorting himself into unnatural shapes to steer the one from his waist always makes me grin! Very talented team.
A good selection of traders, all smiling, guessing that was due to the spending public and kiters. Brighton had a big turnout for this one too, a lot of new members and old faces came out for this one, was it the sunshine? Shame the Fair Weather Flyers went by the forecast Talking of old faces, Outsider, put in his much ‘threatened’ appearance at an event at last, didn’t see him fly a kite, had I done so he would still be there now winding his line in… . Thanks Bachoy for the almost fly of your aircraft, needed a lot more wind to it justice.
Strange but true…A Kestrel put in an appearance on the field, trailing a small tether and bell! Mr Hennessey made up a ‘lure’ with a kite line and BURGER, swung it around his head prompting an immediate attack on the ‘lure’ and capture of the bird by him, unaided…with only one bite from the flying reptile! Hands up who thought he couldn’t pull a bird anymore?
Thanks Alan C, Roy and Hayley, Colin, Martin and all concerned for a brilliant event, see you again next year!
