I can not change the calender entry I made a while ago, (that only Club members can see anyway) but I posted the location of the event incorrectly as the venue has been changed to LYDIARD PARK this year. See the WHKF site. I have heard that flying is from a different field from the camping field and not the best, quote:"A few hundred yards further on, on the right is the the main entrance to the park, go past this and the festival entrance is a little further up the main road and on your right."...but intend going on Friday evening to see for myself, camp and make the most of this HOT weather, oh...how I miss the sleet and snow..... I'm intending to go to this, but trying to figure out how. Due to the lack of ablutions on the camping site I think camping in my little backpacking tent is a non-starter so I'm considering B&B on Saturday night. If I do this my car will be available for carrying kites etc. from the camp site to the festival site for those in motor homes etc.
Kathryn is in school this weekend (near Andover) - I think she's working on where one of the trips out over the weekend should be.

Quite fancy going myself as I have not been there for a few years!
Hopefully the ground will have dried a bit, as getting stuck everywhere is a bit of a pain.
Many thanks Jelv I might take you up on your kite transport offer
regards
Dave

Another thought - if I were to take my little tent to sleep in, is there any kind person we would let me use their washing facilities?

It was a hot windless Saturday, not a lot of Kite flying in the arena so there was ample time to meet up and chat with Avon and White Horse and a lot of Kite fliers from up north / west meeting up for the first time this year. The auction was superb as always and a high point for me, although for once I came away empty handed. Sunday was hot again, but with a good breeze and saw the arena filled with kites. Thanks White Horse for arranging things.
On a personal note and only my opinion, I would not attend it at Lydiard Park again. Having to make a 240mile round trip to attend, pay for camping, not being allowed to fly in the camping field or camp in the vicinity of the flying field (and they were half a mile apart), is not conducive to why I go these events.
If you attend for one day then its fine to park in a car park, grab a snack at food traders, fly and go home. If you are there for a couple of days and camping you have to use your camper facilities for the duration for cooking, hygiene, relaxing, sleeping, kite transportation etc. and being on the edge of festival allows you to both participate in the arena events, cater for yourself between things, and do your own flying from dawn to well after dusk with kite lights etc. making it a total experience for all parties, yourself, the public and the organisers?
That’s my gripe over and done with, never did fly a kite the whole weekend, apart from the genuine hospitality from White Horse crowd I could have sat in a field at home and camped without flying. Just MY opinion!!
