Anyone else fancy a weekend at Sumners Ponds, Friday to Sunday in two weeks time? Everyone knows the drill by now, or knows someone who does....any questions playmates? Sumners Ponds.Collin[/b] I think the only thing else that's on is the kite festival at Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands.....but who can afford to go there eh?

What a shame, we won't be back from Fuerteventura until midnight on the 16th. (life is a pregnant dog) ;D Still just when I was worrying where to go next on holiday, we won the raffle for the Fort Warden Kitemakers Conference in Washington state next March. ;D (thankyou Sheila for buying the tickets) www.kitemakers.org/Will have to brush up on some sewing skills (Lots I think) Don't these things always happen to people that least need them ? (thank god we won it then) ;D ;D Dave

What a shame, we won't be back from Fuerteventura until midnight on the 16th. (life is a pregnant dog) ;D Dave you had me in stitches....while laughing on the floor I read on my box of fireworks..."Light them (topic) at arms length using a taper", "Never go near a firework (posting) that has been lit, even if it hasn't gone off, it may still explode!" Still just when I was worrying where to go next on holiday, we won the raffle for the Fort Warden Kitemakers Conference in Washington state next March. ;D (thankyou Sheila for buying the tickets)89 Will have to brush up on some sewing skills (Lots I think) Don't these things always happen to people that least need them ? (thank god we won it then) ;D ;D It all makes sense now, sewing machine etc. but how do you differentiate from 'Swaning Around' and a Holiday? Do you have to stop Swanning, take a break on holiday, and then back to the Swanning? ;D ;D Rub it in.........like you need telling!!!

I think Collin that swanning is just a UK based thing and visiting other countries can be classed as a holiday most of the time ! ;D
I was thinking about a new sewing machine before we won the raffle so perhaps it was Fate or something !!!
Just packing for Fuerteventura so I better go and do a bit.
Might try to pop up to Sumners over the weekend when we get back. (never been there yet)

That's 5 of of us now, I will check the ground conditions of the top field before Friday 16th.November and let you know if its firm.
I was there delivering pallets for their bonfire on the 3rd.November and could easily drive across the grass, it was like a summers day! Very interesting too, as the field next to the 'rally' field was just having its top soil removed as its being made into another big fishing lake!

Quick update....Weather is looking favourable for the Saturday but Sunday is looking 'unsettled', the ground is firm enough to camp on. The top field is being used for cattle this weekend so we have to camp in the 'rally' field which is at the bottom, nearer the campsite, we can however fly at the top field if we don't mind the cattle or the recycled grass they leave behind!
I think it will be a case of look at our possibilities once we are there as there are several areas to fly in if we wish to do so. Its been blooming cold all this week with very little wind, do we care???
Not me! ;D ;D Going to get Martha a birthday card, hope he brings the cake...we can gather round the 60 candles for warmth....

What a cold day it was today (saturday)! It was good to see Danny and Paddy and the boys, Collin, Les (The Bloke) and Matt. Simon and family popped in just in time for when the birthday cake was cut! Thanks to Collin & Family for my card and very nice VW kite, I look forward to flying it at Vanfest next year!! Thanks to The Bloke for the special bottle of viagra juice!! (My Sainsburys doesn't stock it!!) ;D ;D

Thanks to all that came and played out! To say it was 'fun' would be lying...to say it was enjoyable and different would be more apt!
Good company compensated for the freezing conditions on Friday and Saturday with the lack of wind....we made good use of the lakeside cafes value for money all day breakfasts and cheesy chips in their well heated log cabin!
Those that came for the day on Saturday took away their share of the mud, it was quite soft underfoot and a walk around the 'bulldozed site' that was going to be the new lake, although enlightening ensured you came back some two inches taller with the freshly dug sticky clay on your boots! As promised Dave and Irene brought up a Chocolate 'birthday' cake to share!!
Sunday we managed to fly Spirits and an Octopus along with fighter kites, braving the chill, it was blooming cold! Retiring to Danny's centrally heated oven camper around 1pm we were all treated to his 'special' filtered coffee and a good chin wag, then it started raining and never did stop..leaving the site at 3.30 the rain turned to sleet on the way home!
Do it again? You betchya.....although one of our number said he had surfed in Cornwall at Christmas and never got this cold, and would probably have second thoughts.....
The weather cant beat GOOD COMPANY and its up to us to make the best of what we had dealt....WE DID!!!
Collin
