Hi there! I was a member of BKF a long time ago now, when I was a kid, I used to fly with my dad, I'm not sure if any of you will remember him, Sid Horton. Sadly, after his death I didn't get out to fly kites much, but am still a big fan. I'm now in my final year at uni studying Product Design, I'm looking to design something kite based, possibly bringing the Indian Fighter into the western world's 21st century, but not really sure yet! I was wondering if any of you guys fly Indian fighters or know anything about them and would like to help me with a bit of research and ideas? Hopefully I can properly get back into flying as well! Sophie.

Hi Sophie, If you send me your details, shennessey@brightonkiteflyers.co.uk and you are happy for me to pass them on, there are a couple of our club members I know who would be more than willing to help you. They also remember your father well and flew with him a lot. I know that some of the people that will help still make the kite designed by your father and have been honored with the trophy the club present each year called the Sid Horton Cup. Good to hear from you. Simon

The Sid Horton Memorial Trophy[/b] Hi Soph,
Like riding a bike, you will pick up kite fighting like you never left it....its in your blood! What a pleasure to hear from you, sadly I never knew Sid, but when I was awarded his Memorial Trophy last year I did a lot of research into who he was, and what he did. I have heard a LOT of good thing about him. Click the pic for more photos. He is fondly remembered by a lot of club members....and his fighter kites are STILL flown.
The 'Mystery Man' in the photos was a very good friend of his and will read this posting, although afraid of using computers, perhaps NOW would be a good time for him to make his FIRST post as this subject will be close to his heart?
The club has a lot of Indian Fighter Kite devotees and I am sure they would all love to see you at our next fly-in.
Collin

Wow, I didn't expect such a quick reply. And such lovely ones too. Thanks so much for posting those photo's Collin, they're great to see. I wasn't aware that the trophy was still in circulation, and I don't know who the 'mystery man' is, I'm a little confused! I have taken fighters out to stanmer when I've been home from uni, but don't have the skill I thought I had as a kid! Think I need a lot more practice to get back into it! If anybody knows anyone who would be able to help I'd be very appreciative if you could pass my email on, it's soph.horton@gmail.com. Thanks for such nice replies. Soph
