just a quick review Another great weekend at Kingsfold, thanks Big John for organizing this for us. Light winds on Saturday. Winds a bit gusty on Sunday. At least the rain held off. Linda and Janice demonstrated their skills at line dancing Saturday night, they were great and showed that all the other people on the dance floor had the steps wrong. In fact they were all doing the same wrong steps!! All in all a great weekend, looking forward to Ardingly. ;D ;D ;D

Yes Kev, I'll agree with that. What a great time we had. I still can't get my head around grown men carrying broom handles with a lump of wood on the end for rifles though! Shame about Dave M getting his generator nicked!!!! I hope Collin posts again! Looking forward to Ardingly!

My first visit to Kingsfold and thoroughly enjoyed it - all the club kites borrowed were flown - many thanks for the loan - without them there would have been few inflatables.

Was only there for a couple of hours, but the place looked great. Do they have anything on earlier in the year when the camping is a bit warmer

A very good weekend, all been said here already...A good turnout and the field was filled, not enough wind Saturday but we flew, too much on Sunday...but we flew! Saturday night saw a lot of of the sky filled with kites with lights up till around 10pm...Big John was pleased with the show. Glad we had some Club kites, they helped, after all the fuss getting them caused! (Thank you) Aided by them we represented the BKF fairly well considering winds blew towards the power lines all day so height was restricted. Two idiots landed on the cables without major consequences, one has owned up (above) and I was the other! Looking forward to the 'hat trick' next year....
Friday evening I had to move pitch because of Dave and Sheila running a generator for their microwave (Posh Swans) My fault for falling asleep at 7.30pm.....they were not being unreasonable! However....... Saturday morning their generator had been stolen!!! T'was NOT me....shame this happened, as things like this affect everyone and cloud the 'friendly' atmosphere of the event overall....[/b]

Collin I think you are being overly dramatic by not saying you came down over the sheathed lower voltage lines down the side of the field - not the ones at the far end. And, you'd got two people to look after your kite while you went for a look round - shame you hadn't actually told them where it was anchored so they were running round like headless chickens when it started to come down! Then of course on Sunday safety first and you flew your delta on a line that wouldn't reach the power lines. Instead you just had to check out if the kite eating tree was hungry. Thank goodness IKR were on hand! You also forgot to mention the idiot who was looking after Matt's Mega Sled with the crocodile and the gecko underneath. Sharp eye being kept on the inflatables which were flying fine but didn't notice that the drogue had disappeared from the sled.

Hi all Kingsfolders, sorry that this posting is a tad late, but better late than never. I would really like to thank Big John for organising such a friendly "do" I was only able to stay for the Saturday unfortunately, and I've become imortalised as a headless chicken !!!!!!!! Well I was one of us running about having a near death experiance.
Also I would like to thank (without this sounding like a film acceptance speach) Les, I'm no longer a fighter virgin, if I'm allowed to say that. I had one hell of a stiff neck the following morning. The general good nature of things, oh almost forgot, Kev R for entrusting me with his macaw.
I thought it somewhat sad to see grown men and women walking around in fancy dress all very serious, each to their own I suppose Once again THANK YOU Big John. Toodle pip.

I thought it somewhat sad to see grown men and women walking around in fancy dress Just wait till the second of the Xmas bashes - bearing in mind the origins of the group who's hosing it, it may well be themed....

outsiderWell you were only headless because of Collin chopping it off by not giving you one vital piece of information!

Sorry, but the fighter line was definitely down over the 11kv - I was one of the headless chickens. As an ex SEB engineer of 46 years, I have a RIGHT to sh*t scared of it!

That's our C2LLN, his reputation is certainly well founded, concrete wellies ?? I think he did say to me that the line was by the trees but where I wasn't sure.
Manky
Alas, I shall have to remain happily oblivous to the shenanigins courtesy of ELF. But I still think it rather bizarre to just to want to walk around dressed like a, well you know, (am I allowed to say plonker?)

Guys - do you think we should be joking about kites and power lines in a public forum? OK nothing untoward happened. But we were lucky! Some of us carefully measured and fixed our lines so that we knew our kites couldn't reach the power lines before we launched.

This was one weekend that I didn't fly a fighter kite, so stop sniggering!!
Good job the Traction engines that came across the flying field looking for a non existent exit didn't run anyone over... Thank goodness my Cadac didn't blow my face off as I fitted all the gas connections myself and I am not Corgi registered... Glad my camper didn't roll off the steep chocks I had to use, and crush me... Glad the 'Grumpy old Gits' didn't shoot a hole through me... Very glad the flying 12volt leisure battery powering my kite lights didn't drip acid from 500ft onto anyone...
Phew I'm glad to get home...even put my seat belt on for the journey home, ACCIDENTS can happen.....even when you are very aware and CAUTIOUS!
In order NOT to overfly the now infamous power lines (I have seen these all around the Country..so look out/up) I pegged my Delta out in the field up-wind from where we were flying so as to be in 'cleaner' 'steadier' air and get some altitude to put on a 'show' and well short of the 'twin lines of DEATH' at the end of the field should it come down.....Having had the Delta sitting up there for hours I asked neighbouring flyers to look after it while I went for a Gunfight at the OK Coral (Deadwood Coral) where the Sheriff wanted me to give myself up (something about a generator?) T'was NOT I !!! While I was gone the wind veered left, dropped, and my Delta slowly started descending....watched by the 'kite sitters' who were now running around like 'headless-chickens' as they had no idea I had it pegged out in the next field (and didn't tell them) and could do nothing to prevent it coming down over the low voltage voltage lines away to the side of the flying field. Thanks 'chickens' for retrieving everything for me, thank you Asda for an excellent kite costing £5.......KINGSFOLD 2008, may the force be with you!
