Dear All Having asked for ideas of how to make money for the club and the festival several have been offered. One which we have followed up is to sell the club on the stock exchange and become Brighton Kite Flyers PLC. There are some great advantages in this for the club with very little down side. It has been recommended by a Brighton based accounting firm "Crunch" that we initially float the club with 1,000 shares of £50 each keeping 500 of these back as a club asset the remainder going out to the public with an initial offer to club members and kite flyers first. If we are able to achieve the required sales we could them float Brighton Kite Festival PLC which would raise the further funds for the club and by then it’s shareholders. This income will ensure the future of Brighton Kiteflyers for several years and enable us to keep membership charge low and the run the Kite Festival Before we embark on this path it would be interesting to see if any of our membership would like to take up a shareholding in initially Brighton Kite Flyers and a later stage Brighton Kite Festival. Please either post on brightonkites.proboards.com or send an e-mail to shares@BKF.org.uk

Well, OBVIOUSLY this isn't going to work. We would have to pay the shareholders a dividend after the first year, so we would be back where we started.
However -
If we declared ourselves knackered after 11 months and 30 days, all shares are nullified, and creditors can form any kind of queue they like, 'cos there won't be any money. And THEN, (this is the clever bit) we do it all over again with a new organisation, say "Brighton Kite Fliers PLC" and issue shares again as before.
Maybe we could present a modest award each year for the Member who suggests the most original new name for the club. I could possibly find a multicoloured delta or something as a prize.
Hey, this could run for a few years before anybody figures out what we're doing . . .
Best, Derek

Thank you to those have applied for shares in Brighton Kite Flyers PLC the take up of shares although a few have asked the number requesting them does not warrant the work in setting up a PLC so this will go back on the shelf. We do however need to find some way of making monies to run the club and festival
