I heard from Jerry Swift, at the Bedford festival, this year, that John had died. He said a tribute was planed for your festival, and possably Portsmouth. As it is unlikely I'll get to the Brighton festival, here is a poem to him I wrote in tribute:-
To the B.O.F.
Old John he was dropping bears for many a year, we know, when he started doing it, no one seams to know, just that he was doing it, for a long long time, starting with a pipecleaner, twisted on the line.
To every aspireing dropnick he'd lend a helping hand, soon there were many a group spread across the land, The Ted Berret's, The Sky Squad, and The Swifts too, even THe Midland SkyFauna, joined with the B.M.I.S.S crew.
Roman Candle was written by his fair hand, read by kiteflyers all across the land' over in Europe, and also far away, even over the pond in the U.S.A.
Old John he is dead now, so to the sky he'll sail, we hope he's still dropping bears, and telling many a tail, like the time at Blackheath, Brother Sid's head it came off, Parachuteing bears won't be the same, without the good o'l B.O.F.
(Note, I'm not sure but I think one of the members of the B.K.F was/ is a Star Trek fan, from the 70's - 80's. If so they might remember "Harry's Bar" a song by Chriss Chivers. The poem can also be sung to the first verse of this.)
