Dear Brighton Kite Flyers,
I hope that you do not mind me contacting you at short notice via e-mail, but we had plans to drop flags from hot air balloons into the arena during the opening ceremony and have only just been told by both the CAA and security that the risk of doing this is excessive and if possible we should find another way of displaying the flags if possible. At a meeting of the London Olympic committee this week the use of kites was discussed, we contacted the British Kite Flyers Association and were given your details. I understand that your organisation has the ability to raise the flags into the night sky rather than dropping them from it giving us a similar effect for the audience.
Please could you let me know if your organisation could get a team together to help with this task? The flags we have made for the event are 4.5m wide by 2m tall each one weighing 225g. We expect there to be around 205 flags in total.
We would not be able to make any financial payment to individuals involved however we would supply to your team a corporate uniform which would include an official 2012 Olympic Logo and your club logo and also allow you for the year to use the official Olympic logo on promotional material for the club.
A prompt response to this would be appreciated as we need to ensure that if you are able to help your members get their security clearances processed as soon as possible.
Yours Hopefully
Paul Coe and Sebastian Deighton
