Dear Kite Friends - at last a registration process for the festival - (there are still a couple of things to be confirmed but I thought it best to get this out to everyone now)
Re Sunderland Kite Festival: Sunderland City Council are pleased to be presenting a new event this year.
The “Sunderland Festival” will take place on July 2nd and 3rd 2011 at the Northern Area Playing Fields in Washington and in other venues around the city including flagship parks and seaside resorts.
The new event will have a wider remit than previous kite and friendship festivals and will focus in particular on community participation. There are plans for music concerts each evening in a big tent on site. Kites will still play a large part of the event with an area reserved for specialist kitefliers to demonstrate their skills, and it is hoped that kitefliers from all over the UK come to take part. Sadly, there is no money to support travel and accommodation so it is unlikely that many international kitefliers will be able to join us, although they are still welcome.
Free camping and parking will be available for registered kitefliers, so if you are interested in attending The Sunderland Festival, please complete a registration form and return it to us as soon as possible.
We are planning to have a 'Do it Yourself BBQ' on the Saturday night on the campsite ( non campers welcome too) and there will be a country and western concert that people can attend if they wish.
If you would like a copy of the registration forms please ask and I will e-mail them to you
