A few years ago at Portsmouth Festival, they held a sled altitude sprint. I was rubbish, but thoroughly enjoyed the making and participation. Roy Broadley has kindly allowed me to run a SLED competition at Jolly Up 8 on 16 & 17 April 2011. I would like it to be a way of getting back to kite basics, designing (if you can), making and flying, but most of all, having FUN! Prizes may or may not be awarded for design, construction and decoration, as flight is the most important thing. Judging may be based on any or all of the following: flyability, flying line angle, or an altitude sprint. If I do use an altitude sprint, southern rules would apply, so settling time will be allowed. Naturally, being a competition, there have to be rules, but like the kites, I have kept them as simple as I can. You will find them at www.roy-martin.co.uk/SLEDQueries about these rules, or any discussion about the competition, should NOT be directed to Roy or Hayley at Kites Up. There is a forum thread at www.kiteweekenders.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=kc&action=display&thread=573and that is the ONLY place for such things, so that everyone has the same opportunity to see them. The rules MIGHT be amended in the light of anything said on that forum, but if they are, I will post a note of the change there. I look forward to seeing your creations!
