Is the Club arranging anything around the weekend of the 11/12th October?
I would like to propose an event to encapsulate Light Up The Sky on the 11th and One Sky One World on the 12th.October.
The suggestion is a weekend camping at Sumners Ponds from Friday 10th to Monday 13th October. Being a central location for most members to attend for a day or evenings flying (if they wish to do so) and satisfy the stalwart camping fraternity as well.
Prior to arranging anything ( I have checked the availability of the field, its ours if we want it ) I would appreciate your input or comments……ASAP please!

I have for the past few years been attending the Suffolk Kite Flyers one that is also a weekend event if you wish.
It would be a lot closer to home at Sumners and it would be nice to celebrate it with BKF members for the weekend.
So yes please count us in

Given what OSOW is about I find it rather strange that people are suggesting an essentially private club event instead of getting the message across to as many members of the public as possible.
Last year's event at the Devil's Dyke was I gather very successful (I unfortunately had something else on that day) - I was rather looking forward to it being repeated.

Snippet taken from the OSOW website HERE "The purpose of One Sky One World, is simply to promote the concept of global harmony and understanding between all peoples of the world through an expression of the universality of kites and the wind. Through sharing the wind, our world wide connection with other flyers and all of nature is symbolically realized. The great air ocean favors no dividing boundaries, ideologies, and human conflict. It is much more the prerequisite for our existence, a catalyst in the chemistry of life, supplying our every breath. The International Kite Fly is an attempt to let the wind lift our kites and our awareness so as to more fully understand the necessity for peace."Heavy stuff,eh? Cant see it making one iota of difference to the planet really, but I support the 'high hopes' and good intentions, and will have fun participating with unseen kiters around the World, simultaneously, on the day....

The club has arranged height clearance for One Sky One World on Devils Dyke as with previous years.
It is a time for the kite flyers in the club to get together and fly as many of those kites that get left in the bag week after week through the season. It no way stops a Sumners Ponds weekend and those that are there and kite flyers could head up to the Dyke for the offical Brighton Kite Flyers event.

Like davem, we have attended the event at Rougham, which is why I suggested we hold it at Sumners and making a weekend of it. If you want Jelv, you could ask other campers at Sumners to come and fly some of your kites on the Sunday if you want it to involve members of the public and not just kite flyers, that way you're getting the global message across . Having it at Sumners is closer for us than going to the Dyke.

With Sumners Ponds only half as far away from us as Devil's Dyke, we would prefer to fly OSOW at the Ponds. Even if Luts was not at Sumners Ponds that weekend, we would not make the trek to Brighton for OSOW. Hope this helps...

I HAVE BOOKED the top field at Sumners Ponds from Friday10th. to Monday 13th. October to : A.Light up the Sky on the Saturday and B.Be part of OSOW on the Sunday. Two things taken into consideration were: 1. the fact that the weather is so unpredictable that if wet, it will terminate the Devils Dyke fly, but only inconvenience anyone camping. If sunny, anyone wishing to drive from Sumners Ponds to Devils Dyke on the day can, and anyone from Devils Dyke could come here for a coffee after....come rain or shine? 2. This is probably the last camping event, being the week after Ardingly, but more importantly may be the last for any of us if things go wrong with the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva over the winter....[/b][/color] So come one come all for probably the last time this year....who's up for it?

Sorry can't make it this time again,
What with it being Corinne Birthday on the Friday, which means the yearly trip to a particular shop in Eastbourne on the Saturday, hope to see some of you there, which should be the same great fun as usual.
Then on the Sunday it's Devils Dyke for OSOW weather permitting, as every thing seems to have been this year, more than usual from the 1st to the last event official club event.
Hope some of you can make one if not both event and that turn out for a fly for peace, harmony and unity.

Sorry can't make it this time again. Hope some of you can make one if not both event and that turn out for a fly for peace, harmony and unity. Having written this out to post in the 'RULES' section of the forum, then finding out it is not possible to post in, I found it enlightening enough to share, but where? Here will do....Words from the Dalai Lama, not me, it takes a few seconds to read and think over, whatever your religious belief, faith…. GOOD KARMA Instruction for Life 1. Take into account great love and great achievements involve great risks. 2. When you loose don’t loose the lesson. 3. Follow the three R’s: RESPECT for self, RESPECT for others, RESPONSIBILITY for all your actions. 4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck. 5. Learn the rules so you know how to break the properly. 6. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great relationship. 7. When you realise you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it. 8. Spend some time alone every day. 9. Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values. 10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer. 11. Live a good, honourable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time. 12. A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life. 13. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past. 14. Share your knowledge. It is a way to achieve immortality. 15. Be gentle with the earth. 16. Once a year go someplace where you have never been. 17. Remember that the best relationship in one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other. 18. Judge your success by what you had to give up to get it. 19. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

Not too heavy for me, Collin, but we only got back this evening from a week in Gloucestershire, so couldn't reply earlier. Like it, just wish I could live up to some of it Looking forward to the weekend

UPDATE for this weekend.
The weather is actually looking GREAT for this weekends 'charitable intentions' as well as filling the sky with our kites. Some money making ideas for Children In Need have been discussed, apart from donations, and a raffle was suggested....anyone fancy bringing 'things' to raffle at the weekend or have any other suggestions?
Other 'interesting' things are still in the planning stages (I'm leaving it all a bit late as usual) but will be different if it all comes off!
Even though aircraft come in low an slow over Sumners Ponds on a regular basis, CAA height clearance has been approved for 500ft during daylight hours for the Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
