Writing up brief articles of what took place at events is time consuming; hopefully someone ‘out there’ gets something out of reading what they missed, for what ever reason they had not to come!
Should have done this write-up while at Sumners Ponds as it was a mostly a windless week! The first weekend was extremely blustery with un-flyable winds and rain, with the complete opposite the following week and weekend, sunshine but no wind so hardly any kite flying took place. As this was the first ‘week long’ event here, I think it was a success, and had the weather been better there would have been double the amount of attendees and day fliers as the location and facilities are first class, being central and accessible to most.
Not having to participate or put on a show of kites allowed everyone do their own thing and just relax, which wasn’t a bad thing. Monday morning at 7am. saw all of us up and ready to go to Cuckfield County fair to meet up with other BKF members to put on a display, but after a quick phone call to Someone TM, we were informed the persistent heavy rain meant that the programme there had been cancelled.
The week was spent visiting camping shops, model shops, food shops, off-roading, hiking, playing rounders, model aircraft flying, eating pancakes and socialising. Memorable events were ‘the nothing in the box’ saga, the NO WIND kite that managed to fly off, the large fold up gazebo that self folded overnight into a pile of scrap! A few did both weekends, leaving their campers / caravans here (FOC) while they went home and to work....what a good idea, and I don’t mean work!
Put up some photos of the week HERE, Chris had a birthday, 6 members purchased Cadac ‘Paella pans’, substantially larger than their grill plate, one idiot attempted to put up a newly acquired TV ariel...with 150sq.ft of roof to drill a 3" hole to fit it through he managed to find a wiring loom to drill through, socialising meant eating for free (roughing it) look at the spread on offer in the photos...and home made scones and cream/jam, pancakes (THANKYOU!)
Thank you to all that turned up, 80% first timers….and two new members. Regardless of the weather it’s the PEOPLE that make events, and great company meant a great event with an abundance of humor and a lot of ribbing!!!!
So when do you all want to do it again? Let me know...soon!
