I wouldn't swear to it but I think it belonged to the Swiss. According to their website they are back in the UK for Portsmouth, so if it is one of theirs you should be able to chat and get close ups.

hay folks I know the weather wasn't very good but there were a few Brighton Kite Fliers at the festival, can I ask without upsetting anyone, why were none of the larger BKF kites flown, come to that matter I didn't see any? Ok I realise that I was watching over my catapillar amongst my other inflatables but it would of been fantastic to see some of the clubs kites. This leads me on to ask are the clubs inflatables flown when the club is paid?

An interesting point Damon there was no official reason why the club kites were not flown. Although there are are several reasons why the club kites did not need to be flown. in fact they could have been flown as they were they both days. Although could easily not have been there as they were mainly taken up on Sat to hand out to those flying at Blackheath and still there on Sun waiting to be taken home by those same flyers.
The official line:- The club has adopted a policy following some incidents over the last few years where the club and its good nature have been abused and that is that it does not guarantee flying the large inflatables or being at any festival if it has not had an invite (paid or not). This also give some members who tend to fly the larger kites time and occasions to fly their own kites which they want to. This does not stop members flying them if they choose to do so.
On my part:- Basingstoke last year was, not the kite club but the Rugby club were to say the least unfriendly and implied we should not be flying on or near his beloved pitches, and as to fly the larger kites this year with high pilots because of the low wind meant that the only place that would be safe was on / over the rugby pitches, and with the ever treat of rain I felt that we would fly my own kites as we had no obligation to put on a inflatable show as a club. This did not stop any of the club flying the large kites but most if not all wanted to fly their own kites or do not want to fly the large inflatables (can't blame them for that) Although a few were flown in the arena the large spirit and the play sail to name two

the playsail is not a kite or an inflatatble its a flat sheet with a bit of string tied on each corner like an oversize handkerchief it has no stability and is not capable of staying in the air for any length of time it does not fly? kites do

I was there last year and witnessed the unpleasant episode to which Simon referred. I'd have been very wary of flying over the rugby pitches.
I was there on the Sunday and could have chosen to suggest flying Ollie. I didn't for a few reasons:
1. I saw how many times your lifter went up and down and concluded there just wasn't enough consistent wind to make it worth the effort.
2. I had my own kites there and chose to fly one of them instead.
3. There is no dedicated area for the large kites so it would have meant flying in an area where the public were wandering around and flying their own kites. The thoughts of Ollie let loose in such an area, especially as he would have been up and down and swinging around given the very variable wind conditions are not ones I would entertain for too long.
4. Given the wind direction it would of been tricky finding a place to fly from that did not risk getting tangled with the rugby posts.
5. There was plenty going on in the arena with some new kites being flown by some of the overseas flyers, I preferred to spend some time watching (and also there were some people I specifically wanted to have a chat with).
